Leek - Allium ampeloprasum var. Porrum – belongs to the same family as onions, garlic and chives. There are three different kinds of leek: summer, autumn and winter. The first two have a longer shaft than the winter leek. In the Netherlands, leeks are grown primarily in the provinces of Limburg and North Brabant.
Per 100 grams, leeks contain approximately 61 kcals, 5 grams carbohydrates, 2 grams protein and 0,3 grams fat. In addition, leeks contain vitamin B and C, calcium, iron, carotene, folate, potassium, magnesium and manganese.
Ideal storage temperature:
Between 10 and 12 degrees Celsius.
